March and April Shows!
Spring is just like Fall in reverse
Hello everyone and welcome to the 2 (!!) new subscribers since my last post. This is the Silly Street Newsletter, a monthly happenings newsletter of great comedy shows in the Madison area. Particularly in the Willy Street Neighborhood. Typically I start this newsletter off with a clip or sketch from someone in the Madison Comedy Scene. For this edition, I want to plug MadisonLaughs.com.
A few months back, the Madison Comedy Scene lost one of its own when the local madison comedy website was taken over by an Indonesian gambling firm. While I lost over $10,000 in cash to a man I thought was the booker of a bar show in Oconomowoc, waht hurt the most, was knowing we lost a great resource for open mics, shows and comics in the area. That website is back up, and a huge thank you to Noah Mailloux, comedian and web designer who helped us get it back on track.

This is a special newsletter for me, and it’s going to be a show-heavy one. I am coming up on my 4th anniversary of doing comedy (April 1st, 2021) and I am celebrating by clearly overbooking myself for the next 12 days. In all seriousness, I am excited to be this overbooked. I am not sure since I’ve started comedy that I’ve had this many cool shows, independent from each other back to back to back to back. So I am going to talk about them, I’m going to talk bout what makes them fun, and unique shows, and I’m going to give you all the details on where and why you can show up.
Thanks for being a loyal subscriber to the Silly Street Newsletter, I hope to see you at a show! Here’s a list of all of them:

Comedy Night at Spanky’s in Waterford (3.26)
Ok, as far as free comedy shows go, this poster is not the worst I’ve seen. Infinitely better than anything made with AI. I’ll be there with Ben O’Connell, Jared Porter, and headliner, Mike Marvell.

A really nice poster
Comedy at Working Draft (3.27)
Silly Street Comedy’s Flagship Show. Always fun, always free. Come by and have a beer or 2. Headliner Grace Jung will be joined by Ben O’Connell, Pam Krugman, and Mickey Morello. Show starts at 7:30pm

Atlas Improv (3.28)
Atlas Improv performs every Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9PM. The 7pm is a Family Friendly TheatreSportz style show, and the 9pm is not family friendly Long Form. If you’re ever interested in trying improv, there is a free drop-in workshop the first Saturday of every month at 3:30pm.
Change My Mind (3.29)
I’m really excited for this show. It’s a new format show by Cheshire Cat Comedy, who are always coming up with new ideas to keep stand-up shows fresh and interesting. This one is a comedy debate show, where comics will go head-to-head like the Lincoln-Douglas Debates of yesteryear

Teaching Improv (3.30)
Ok, full confession, I was trying to keep this 11 days of show streak going for this whole newsletter, so this one if misleading. I teach improv on Sundays. It’s a closed class and you cannot come.
Cooking Class (3.31)
Really stretching it now, this is not even comedy, this is a cooking class at Orange Tree Imports I was gifted for Christmas this year. I’m sure I’ll get some zingers off.
Roast of Will Santino (4.1)

Will Santino, a hilarious comedian and cartoonist, is heading to NYC this April. And per Madison Comedy tradition, that means it’s roast time. Join us at 8pm at The Rigby for a Comedy Central-style sendoff, as some of Madison’s sharpest comics roast him to shreds before he skips town.
Madison’s Funniest at Comedy on State (4.2)
Madison’s Funniest Comic Competition is the annual tradition in the madison comedy scene that brings all of Wisconsins up-and-coming comedians together to question whether or not we’re actually good at this.
The competition is every Wednesday in April, replacing the normal open mic. Comics get cut each round based on your votes. Come fill out a ballot have a drink, see a big trophy and laugh, this brings out all of Wisconsin’s best. Your next favorite comic is on this lineup.

Endurance Improv Festival (4.3, 4.4, and 4.5)

More information at enduranceimprov.com
The Endurance Improv Festival is how Atlas Improv celebrates its birthday each year, performing one hour of free improv for every year we’ve been alive. This year, we turn 21 (so yes, the festival can drink).
It runs April 3–5, kicking off Thursday night with a short-form tournament. I’ll be performing as “Fruit and Bubbly” with my old pal Ryan Kushner, and we’ll go head-to-head against teams of local improvisers.
Friday, I’m performing The Gauntlet which is a brand-new format that some improvisers and I have been working on. It starts with a monologue and spirals into chaos, and is definitely not a Harold.
And Saturday is the all-day marathon: improv begins at 10am with a family-friendly hour (bring your kids!) they can watch or just perform and it rolls nonstop through the next 15 or so hours, with fantastic improvisers from all over the country!
